In the late eighties early nineties I joined the Navy as a Seabee. After that I started work for a manufacturing plant that made custom stainless steel equipment for the snack food industry. I worked in the engineering department as a designer / draftsman. I went on to college in Colorado and received my degree in Industrial Design. Moved to Los Angeles and worked in the TV, movie, and entertainment industry as a Special FX makeup Artist. When that industry slowed down I went back to school and received my license as a FAA approved A&P mechanic. I have worked on general aviation aircraft as well as WWII military warbirds. Specifically the B-25 bomber named “Executive Suite” along with its sister aircraft the C-47.
I started into R/C models in 1986. At that time there was only plans built models along with some wood kits, such as your Top Flight, SIG manufacturing, Royal kits, and Byron Originals fiberglass and foam kits. Living and growing up in Iowa I was fortunate to be able to attend Byron Originals show in Ida Grove, Iowa called “Striking Back” a number of times before it was closed. There wasn't any ARF’s around like the nice selection that we have now. When I lived in California I helped in the Scale Masters 2007 qualifier. The next year, 2008 I entered the competition with a scratch built Aeronca C-3. I continue to build kits and plans built models today.
Before I became the owner of Solo Props I was also a customer. I originally purchased a Solo Propeller from the first owner Carl Peter. I bought a 3 blade hub with SBD Dauntless profile blades. I have been building a Ziroli Dauntless powered by a G-62 that will run my Solo Prop 3 Blade.
In late 2011, I decided it was time to move from California. I went back to Iowa and started to build a new house with a shop. In late 2013, I came across the information that Solo Props was back on the market for sale. I immediately contacted the previous owner Wayne Fussell and started talks for the purchase of the company. In late March 2014 the deal was made and I started the process of re-locating the company. Re-organizing the way the company did business was a must to streamline its operation. At this time improvements to both the office side and the manufacturing of the props will be on going to improve Solo Props.
I believe in the product and see good things for Solo’s future, in the form of expanded product line and service. If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email or call. Thank you for your interest in Solo Props as well as your support.
Thank you to all the active duty and veteran United States military!
